She was the daughter of Homer Pierce and Elizabeth Dunsmoor Clark of St Paul, Minnesota and Brewster, Massachusetts.
She enjoyed genealogy, stories of sea captains, sailing and swimming, and always delighted in the wind swinging to the North at the end of beautiful Cape Cod summers.
She loved leading her family in song at every holiday - playing the piano as they sang rounds, and not making them sing more than two verses per hymn.
Predeceased by her husband, Donald MacGregor, sisters Cathie and Betty, brothers Bob and Kim, she is survived by daughters Heather Billings & Gillian O’Callaghan, their husbands Brian and Donal, 6 grandchildren Dylan, Kyle, Shannon, Reid, MacGregor (Mac), and Riley, as well as many nieces and nephews, grand and great-grand nieces and nephews.
Helen graduated from Wellesley College with a major in Ancient History and began teaching Ancient History and Archeology at Macalester College in St. Paul, Minnesota where, still younger than some of her students, she was called their “ancient” history teacher.
Helen was the first woman to enter and graduate from Fuller Theological Seminary in Pasadena, California and the first woman to enter the PhD program in Archeology at Johns Hopkins University.
When she moved to Brewster, her husband Donald’s hometown, she became a substitute teacher for schools up and down the lower Cape, and taught piano out of her Main Street home.
In 1968 she founded Trinity School of Cape Cod, which is still flourishing today as Trinity Christian Academy. It holds the honor of being the longest continuously operating independent school on Cape Cod.
She was a supporter of the Pituitary Network Association and enjoyed being the oldest acromegalic in their membership.
She also supported her nephew Paul Kroeger and his wife Christine Kroeger and great-nephew, Richard Kroeger in their missionary work through Wycliffe Bible Translators.
A memorial service with lots of singing will be held on December 28 at 11 AM at Brewster Baptist Church.
In lieu of flowers, donations would be gratefully accepted to Trinity Christian Academy, 979 Mary Dunn Road, Barnstable, MA 02630.
