Greg was predeceased by his loving wife, Margaret Mahaney-Smith and his first wife, Susan Smith, father, Robert Smith, and his mother, Betty Smith. He is survived by his loving son, Jason Smith, and stepchildren, Amy Auldredge (Dustan), C.J. Errichetti, and Dan Errichetti, grandchildren Graham and June Smith and Nora and Adeline Auldredge. Greg is also survived by his siblings, David J. Smith, Sharon A. Kubeja, Matthew P. Smith, and Christel M. Willis and several beloved nieces and nephews.
Greg was a devout Catholic and enjoyed traveling to religious sites to include Jerusalem and Medugorje with his wife Meg.
Greg was a former CFO, VP of Development, VP & Corporate Controller and Hotel Director of Finance. He worked with owners and financial institutions pertaining to restructurings, lending opportunities and the buying and selling of hotel properties.
Most recently, Greg was the principal consultant at Smith Hospitality Consulting. Greg worked for major hospitality companies including Hilton Worldwide., Waterford Hotel Group, Interstate Hotels and Boykin Management Company.
Throughout his extensive hotel career, Greg will be remembered not by a deal that was struck, but rather, he will be remembered most by his love of God, the friends that he made, the relationships he built, the people he mentored, the careers that he developed and his thoughtfulness and attention to detail. He will be remembered as a loving husband, father, and grandfather.
The family would like to thank the doctors and staff at USA Health University Hospital for the loving care they have provided Greg over the last several years.
A visiting hour will be held at St. Joan of Arc Church, 61 Canal Rd., Orleans from 10 - 11 AM on Tuesday, May 21, 2024 followed by a funeral mass in Greg's honor at 11:00 AM. Burial will conclude at Orleans Cemetery.
