EASTHAM – Charles B. Higgins, 90, of Eastham, MA, died on Aug 8th peacefully at his home, with his daughter and son in attendance. Formally of Whitman, MA; son of Mr. and Mrs. Byron M. Higgins who were also born in Whitman and lived there all of their life. He was the husband of Mary Louise (Winberg) Higgins for 49 years.
Charles was a Navy veteran of WWII who spent the war in the Pacific Fleet on a APA Amphibious Personal Attack Transport. Charles worked with his father as an electrician and was an electrician’s mate aboard ship while he was in the Navy. In all Charles was an electrician for fifty seven years before he retired in 1991. After three years working around his property, he trained to become a school bus driver of which he enjoys doing and travels from one end of the Cape to the other and also a lot of trips off Cape to Boston and surrounding towns.
Charles is survived by his son, Todd Allen Higgins of Brewster and daughter Kimberly Higgins Walwer and her husband Gary of Key Largo, FL; two grandsons, Nicholas Charles Walwer and Matthew Louis Walwer; sisters, Verda Ricker, Winnifred Robinson and Joann Tucker. He is predeceased by his brother Byron Higgins Jr., and sisters, Gwendolyn Meyer and Pauline Higgins. He also leaves behind his companion Gertrude Kieghly.
Relatives and friends are invited to attend a memorial visitation that will be held from 4p-6p on Thur, Aug 14th at Nickerson Funeral Home, 77 Eldredge Park Way, Orleans, MA. Burial will be private.
