Barbara Rita O'Brien

Barbara was born in Malden, MA on December 6, 1940, to William and Rita Geagan. She attended Swampscott High School and the Chandler Secretarial School in Boston. She married Joseph O’Brien in 1963 before moving to Lynn, MA. Together they went on to have eight children relocating numerous times before eventually settling in Brewster, MA.

In addition to raising eight children, she held several jobs outside the home. These included secretarial and retail positions in her younger years. She later became the head rental agent at Sotheby's International Realty in Orleans, MA before retiring in 2014. Among her many interests, she enjoyed travel, music, dancing, sailing, skiing, reading and long walks by the Bay. She had a talent for making everyone feel special through the warmth of her smile or a shared laugh. Above all she loved her family and treasured the time spent with them.

Barbara was predeceased by her husband Joseph and sisters, Judith Geagan and Carole Casey. She is survived by her brother William Geagan, Jr. and wife Anne of Westford, MA, four sons, Todd D. O’Brien and wife Laurie of Orono, ME, Christopher B. O’Brien and wife Diana of New York, NY, Neil F. O’Brien of Brewster, MA and Brendan P. O’Brien and wife Mita of Brewster, MA; four daughters, Stacey E. Faris and husband Tom of Brewster, MA, Heather M.A. Nevulis and husband Mark of Plymouth, MA, Judy K. Ellis and husband Timothy of Brewster, MA and Kerry E. Berto-O’Brien and husband Joshua of Brewster, MA. She is also survived by numerous beloved grandchildren, great-grandchildren, nieces, and nephews.

Visiting hours will be from 4-6 PM on Monday,March 24th at the Nickerson Funeral Home, Eldredge Parkway, Orleans, MA. A funeral mass will be celebrated at 11 AM on Tuesday, March 25th at Our Lady of the Cape Church in Brewster. Burial will follow at the Brewster Cemetery.
