May 17, 19 17 – April 20, 2015.
Anne loved living on Cape Cod, where gardening and walking the beaches and marshes were some of her favorite activities. After they retired in 1980, Anne and her husband, Chester , lived in Eastham on Nauset Marsh until moving to The Terraces in Orleans. They were members of the Federated Church of Orleans and Anne volunteered at Katy’s Corner. Anne was born Anne Wilson Paterson in Thornhill, Dumfriesshire, Scotland. Her childhood experiences in the Scottish countryside with her brothers, Christie, Arthur, and Walter gave her an appreciation for nature and the outdoors. The Paterson family came to the U.S. in 1931 when Anne’s father, Dr. John Paterson, became a Professor at Drew Theological Seminary. Anne graduated from Ohio Wesleyan in 1938 with a degree in Library Science and then worked for a law firm in Newark , NJ , until her marriage to Chester Bert Dugdale on September 4, 19 43. After their three daughters, Leslie, Jane, and Ruth were born, Anne taught Sunday School and volunteered with the Brownies and Girl Scouts for nearly 30 years. Anne worked in the periodicals section of the library at Fairleigh Dickinson University in Rutherford , NJ , for 15 years.
In addition to her three daughters and their husbands, Anne is survived by eight grandchildren and 13 great-grandchildren. She was predeceased by Chester, her husband of 67 years. A memorial service will be held at the Federated Church of Orleans on Wednesday May 13 at 1:30 PM. Anne and Chester’s ashes will be interred in the church’s memorial garden.
