Born in Framingham, Mass. on July 24, 1931. He was the son of Giacomina (Giordano) Gandolfo and Joseph Gandolfo.
Joe, as he was known to family and friends, attended Framingham High School, graduating in 1949. After graduation, he attended Newton Trade School to pursue his interest in becoming an electrician, graduating in 1951. He then enlisted in the Air Force, spending one year in Wyoming for communications training. In early 1952 he returned home on a two-week leave to marry the love of his life, Barbara. As time went on, he learned to maintain the generators on the base while living in a 1-room shack all alone. Every day he would be joined by a small group of Koreans who would work with him fueling the generators.
In September 1953, after returning from South Korea, he and his bride and newborn daughter moved to Lake Seneca, NY to live on Sampson Air Force Base for the next year and a half. In April 1955, he was honorably discharged having earned his 3 stripes as a Sergeant.
Joe became a master electrician, owning his own successful business, Gandolfo Electric. He became a member of Rotary Club International in support of the community he loved. He served as President of the local Framingham chapter 1979-1980.
Upon retirement, Joe and Barbara moved to Brewster, the Cape Cod they both loved. Fishing and clamming were his favorite past-times. He was an avid Boston sports fan, enjoying the Patriots, Bruins, Celtics, and Red Sox. In his later years, he became an adventurous cook, following all the cooking shows on TV and cooking new recipes, as well as the family favorites.
