Hyannis – Alice Geraldine (Roderick) Enos Mayo, a Somerville native who spent decades raising a family on Cape Cod and contributing to the well-being of her community, passed away quietly on June 2, 2022. She was born April 24, 1925 and spent her childhood years growing up, along with her seven older brothers, at 172 Oxford St. in Somerville before her family eventually relocated to Santuit on Cape Cod. Alice married her first husband, Manuel John Enos, in 1941. Alice was a devoted wife and caring mother whose main passion was raising and nurturing their five children: the late Mary Lou (Enos) Crocker Souza Long, Wayne John Enos of Marstons Mills, Sandra Marie (Enos) Ashline of East Longmeadow, Ann Marie Enos of Hyannis, and the late Michael Steven Enos. Alice had many grandchildren and great-grandchildren and loved spending time with them and showering them with love, attention, and affection. Following the death of her first husband, she continued raising her children and eventually married her second husband, Paul Kelly.
Always a “people person”, Alice sharpened her legendary social skills while working as a waitress at some of the most popular establishments on the Cape, such as Wimpy’s, East Bay Lodge, Red Coach Grill, and Mildred’s Chowder House. Her life was filled with fun and laughter and was further enhanced when Alice met and fell in love with her third husband, the late Roscoe Mayo. The couple settled in Orleans where they lived comfortably and spent as much time as possible with their children and grandchildren. Alice and Roscoe also shared a passion for golf. Alice was known to frequent many golf courses across Cape Cod and enjoyed every second she got to spend outdoors on the links. In addition to being an avid golfer, Alice loved socializing with family and friends, and was well-known as a gracious and entertaining party host. Her guests always left with samples of her famous fudge and peanut butter “bullets”, which she hand-baked with the same love and care she exhibited toward her children, grandchildren, and great-grandchildren. Alice was a beloved mother and grandmother and a generous friend to countless people on the Cape, as Alice seemed to know everyone. Whether it was cutting the rug at the Hyannis VFW or hosting a summer lawn party at her Orleans home, Alice was the life of the party and will be greatly missed.
Family and friend of Alice Enos Mayo are invited to attend a graveside service at 11:00 A.M. on Saturday, July 30 at Mosswood Cemetery, located at 280 Putnam Ave., Cotuit, MA 02635. Following the service, guests are invited to a celebration of life gathering at the home of Alice’s daughter Ann Marie, at 120 Sea St. in Hyannis.
