Albert Cash, 75, of North Eastham died on Wednesday, January 11, 2023 at home. He was born in Boston, and raised in South Weymouth, MA and Fort Eustis, VA. Most of his adult life was spent in northern New Jersey, moving to Cape Cod in 2000.
His jobs involved either data processing or airplanes, his true passion. During his service in the Army, while in Vietnam, he crewed on Grumman Mohawks in the 1st Infantry Division. Later he volunteered for “Project Duffel Bag”, planting and monitoring sensors on the Ho Chi Minh Trail. On his return to the US, he was assigned as a radar team leader with The 82nd Airborne Division 3/321 field artillery. Before being discharged from the Army, he took a data processing course, which led to another career.
Prior to moving to Cape Cod, Al was diagnosed with severe PTSD due to his experiences in Vietnam. Always the wanderer, he loved traveling. “I wanted to see all of this wonderful country that I lost my mind for.” Going through several stages of camping, from back packing, tent, pop-up, travel trailer to Class C RV, many enjoyable trips were made alone and with his family. A few years ago, he visited his 50th state via a cross country car trip to Alaska.
Al is survived by Sue, his wife of 45 years, son Kevin (Melissa), daughter Colleen (Brian), “bonus” daughter Bonnie (Mikey). PopPop also leaves behind four wonderful grandchildren: Jade, Mia, Anneke and Dominic. Sadly, he was predeceased by grandson Anthony.
The furry family members gave much joy and comfort: Major, Kringle, Shadow, Patches, Puff, Gilbert, Sullivan, Munchkin, Babe, Mandy, Jake, Bond.
Family would like to express their gratitude and thanks to BroadReach Hospice for their exceptional care.
Al will be interred at the Massachusetts National Cemetery in Bourne. Services will be private. . As an expression of remembrance, a donation may be made to DVFarm.org. For online condolences, please visit www.nickersonfunerals.com
