William H. Dodd passed away in death September 7, 2015. He was born October 10, 1932, to William and Mary Dodd in Anniston, Alabama. At a young age, Willie Dodd (as many called him) moved to Florida, and then he moved briefly to Buffalo, NY before moving back to Miami, Florida in 1959. He married his wife and the love of his life, Gladys on May 31, 1969 who affectionately called him Dodd. They made Orlando, Florida their home.
As owner of Dodd’s Auto Repair for almost 49 years, Dodd was well known in the community. He was known as “The Tire Man” in the Ivey Lane area and loved working on cars. His shop was a gathering place for many. In addition, Dodd was president of the Washington Shores Homeowners’’ Association.
Dodd was preceded in death by wife: Gladys Dodd; his brother; Tommy Lee Dodd; his sister: Katherine Huntly; his sons: William Dodd and James Dodd; daughter, Valerie J. Claridy; his grandson, Travis Ferguson and his granddaughters, Patricia Redding and Jeannie L. Dodd.
To cherish his memory, Dodd is survived by his loving and devoted children. Daughters are Carolyn Darden (Ben) of Orlando, FL, Martha Dodd (Charlie) of Homestead, FL, Phoebe Dodd of Buffalo, NY, Doris Olden (Ronnie) of Orlando, FL, Barbara Minus (Wilfred) of Winter Garden, FL, and Deborah Ferguson (Randy) of Macon, GA. His sons are: Samuel Claridy (Linda) of Orlando, FL and Daniel Claridy (Denise) of Winter Park, FL and his niece Sarah Hunt (Curtis) of Alexandria, AL.
Dodd is also survived by his sisters: Gertrude Freeman of Arizona, Mamie Dodd Terry of Jacksonville, AL and Vera Dodd Brewster (Dewoyet) of Stone Mountain, Georgia. His surviving sister in laws are: Allene Thompson (Earl), Annie Bell McMillian (John), Beatrice Jones, Annie B. Long (Thomas), Bernice Dixson, and Betty Mathis (Ira).
Also left to treasure his memories are a host of grandchildren, great grandchildren, nieces, nephews and cousins too numerous to name.
At the time of his death, Dodd was a serious student of the Bible. He recognized Jehovah as the true God and he had the Bible based hope of living forever on a paradise earth where there would be no sickness, no pain and no death as stated at Revelation 21: 3 & 4.
Public viewing at Mitchell’s Funeral Home on Friday, September 18, 2015 from 6 to 8 pm at 501 Fairvilla Road, Orlando, FL 32811. Memorial service is Saturday, September 19, 2015 at 1 pm at 4406 Teresa Blvd, Orlando, FL 32811.
