He was born in Winnfield, Louisiana on June 19, 1943.
Carroll graduated from Tioga High School in 1961 and was Valedictorian of his class. He went on to complete his undergraduate degree at Louisiana College graduating with his B.A. in US History in 1966. He received his first Master’s degree from Northwestern State College in 1970. He then went on to earn his first PhD from Tulane University in 1973. His education continued lifelong including another Master’s degree from Florida State University in English and another PhD in Higher Education from that same University.
He was married to Barbara Fuqua on October 30, 1961. He welcomed his daughter, Stephanie in 1962, and his son, Shawn in 1967. His family went with him from school to school, city to city, and church to church.
Simultaneously during his postgraduate studies, R.C. served as pastor of First Baptist Church in Monterey, Louisiana from 1964-1965. He then served as pastor at Walnut Grove Baptist in Colfax, Louisiana from 1965-1970. Following his educational opportunities, he then pastored at Blood River in Albany, Louisiana from 1970-1974, continuing with his service at Alpine First Baptist of Pineville, Louisiana from 1974-1978.
In summer of 1978, the family moved to Graceville, FL where R.C. began his career as a collegiate educator teaching Western Civilization at Baptist Bible Institute, now known as Florida Baptist College. He eventually was promoted to Administrative Vice President of the school and served there until his retirement in 2014.
During his tenure at Florida Baptist College, he was interim pastor in over 25 churches in the tri-state area.
He is survived by his wife Barbara, his daughter Stephanie, his son Shawn, and two granddaughters, Lessie and Rudi.
His greatest achievement was his capacity to love and to share Jesus with anyone he met. He truly walked the life of a Christian man and was an inspiration to those that his life touched. We were truly blessed by his presence and know that he is in the presence of our Heavenly Father.
Visitation and Funeral will be held in Orlando at Baldwin Fairchild Funeral Home on Thursday, January 9th at 11:00 AM (visitation) and 12:00 PM (service). Interment will be in the Chapel Hill Cemetery (same location) at 1:00 PM.
