Robert Joseph Velasco

A memorial service will be celebrated in his honor at Baldwin-Fairchild Conway Funeral Home located at 1413 S. Semoran Blvd, Orlando, FL 32807 on Wednesday the 22nd of April from 5 to 9 pm.

Born in Newark, NJ. Mr. Velasco moved to Orlando in 1993 almost 22 years ago.

Mr. Velasco attended Wilfred Beauty Academy in Newark, NJ and worked for Seligman and Latz for 20 years, which operated the beauty salons in major department stores including Bloomingdales, Macys, and Enrico Caruso in New York City, NY. He worked his way up from hairdresser to Senior Vice President in his tenure with this company.

He later opened his own local beauty salon in 1986 and once it was up and running began another career as a real estate agent with Coldwell Banker in Clark, NJ. In his first year there he was named “Rookie of the Year” and continued with a successful career with them.

He moved to Florida in 1993 to pursue the dream and continue in home sales with US Home. While with US Home he rose from sales agent, with multi-million dollar sales to Senior Vice President of Sales. He remained with them until 2005 when he retired.

Predeceased by his parents Robert Velasco and Florence Casiero Velasco of Menlo Park, NJ. He is survived by his wife Maria V Velasco his wife of 42 years, his daughter Dana J Velasco-Calandra, son in law Nicholas Calandra, his loving children, Gianna Maria and Dominic Robert Calandra of Orlando. Mr. Velasco is also survived by his sister Barbara Velasco, Hamilton Township, NJ and Carol Schmidt, Kissimmee, Fl. He is also survived by Catherine Evans his sister in law, and Howard Evans is brother in law of Nutley, NJ He is also survived by his nephews Thomas Halm, Robbinsville, NJ and Daniel Halm, NYC, NY and Sharon Schmidt Rivera, Nicole Schmidt, and Emilie Schmidt, Kissimmee, FL.
