Otto Earldrick Phills was born on March 15th, 1931 in Kingstown, St. Vincent and the Grenadines to Frederick Phills and Emma Snagg. Otto has 6 siblings, four brothers & two sisters. He was proceeded in death by his parents, Frederick and Emma, his three brothers, Balfour Godwin Phills, Tristian Phills, Vincent John Phills, and his sister Doris Phills. He is survived by his brother Kingsley Phills and sister Yvonne Phills, both residing in Toronto, Canada.
He received his primary and secondary education at St. Vincent Boys School, the most prestigious school in St. Vincent & the Grenadines. He enjoyed playing Cricket with his friends in his youth. After graduating, he went to Trinidad for his training for the Oil and Gas Utility Company in St. Vincent. Otto also worked for Shell Oil Company. During this time, Otto was blessed with the birth of his two daughters: Allison Phills Morris, and Debbie Dopwell before migrating to New York City in November 1963.
In 1967, he married the love of his life, Arlinda Miller, a widow with two sons, who he accepted as his own: Derrick Miller and Norman Keith Miller. From their union, two sons were born: Reginald Phills and Darryl Phills. They lived in St. Albans Queens NY where Otto worked at Verizon (New York Telephone, NYNEX) for 26 years until he retired in 1996. During 1996, Otto and Arlinda relocated to Orlando Florida. Otto joined Faith Assembly Church and was a faithful member until his passing. Otto loved to bowl. He and his friends would meet every Tuesday to bowl and fellowship. Otto’s other favorite hobby was bike riding. He would ride for miles each day. But his favorite thing to do was to work in his yard. He took great pride taking care of his lawn, hedges and pool. Otto was longtime member of the Wedgefield Men’s Club.
Otto leaves to cherish his memory, his loving wife Arlinda Phills, two daughters: Allison Phills Morris, son-in-law, Lenox Morris, and Debbie Dopwell: four sons, Derrick Miller, Norman Keith Miller, Reginald Phills, Darryl Phills & daughter-in-law Renee Phills, his brother Kingsley Phills, his sister Yvonne Phills. One grandson: Derrick Miller Jr , six granddaughters: Desiree Morris, Lerissa Morris, Kai Miller, Layla Phills, Jordan Phills and Kalani Miller. One great granddaughter: Micheala Miller and one great grandson: Derrick Miller III. Along with several nieces and nephews, cousins and friends.
Otto Phills lived a life of service, a life of love and a life of kindness.
A visitation for Otto will be held Monday, January 2, 2023 from 5:00 PM to 7:00 PM at Baldwin Fairchild at Chapel Hill, 2420 Harrell Road, Orlando, FL 32817. A visitation will occur Tuesday, January 3, 2023 from 1:30 PM to 2:00 PM at Faith Assembly of God, 9307 Curry Ford Road, Orlando, FL 32825. A funeral service will occur Tuesday, January 3, 2023 from 2:00 PM to 3:00 PM at Faith Assembly of God, 9307 Curry Ford Road, Orlando, FL 32825 followed by a committal service at Chapel Hill Cemetery located at 2400 Harrell Road, Orlando, Florida 32817.
