The Wong family wishes to announce with great sorrow, the loss of their family matriarch, loving wife, mother and grandmother, Olga May Wong, on August 3, 2022, at the age of 94. Olga passed away peacefully in her sleep surrounded by her husband, children, in-laws, and grandchildren after a brief illness.
Born in Wild Cane, St. Ann, Jamaica, Olga came from very humble beginnings with no formal education. She met and married Bertie Wong, her husband of 65 years, in Kingston, Jamaica. A devoted mother to her children, she continually stressed the unity of family and cultural values, unwavering devotion to the Catholic faith and improving oneself and life through the pursuit of education. Seeking a better life and opportunities for her family, she made the difficult decision to move to the United States. Olga’s tenacity and resilience during those years were rewarded two-fold, by her being able to retire from Walt Disney World, while also witnessing her children and grandchildren attaining professional degrees. Her great joy was spending time with her family, and she was able to fulfill her dream of visiting the Pope at the Vatican, Lourdes, and Fatima.
Olga is survived by her immediate family: husband, Bertie Wong; six children: Anthony (Marietta), Francis (Maria), Sharon, Paul, Carol and Melanie Wong; eight grandchildren: Stephen, Francis Anthony (Ingrid), Stephanie, Elena, Christina, Celina, Alaina Mae and Alexa Jasmine Wong.
It is written in the book of Proverbs: “Who can find a virtuous woman? for her price is far above rubies…Her children arise up, and call her blessed; her husband also, and he praiseth her.” As a family, we will remember her voice, her hands, her arms, her hugs, the love in her eyes and we thank God for such a truly wonderful blessing.
In her memory, the Wong Family is creating the Olga Wong Memorial Scholarship. Any donations of support are appreciated as the Wong Family creates a scholarship that will benefit students of color in their pursuit of higher education. https://www.gofundme.com/f/the-olga-wong-memorial-scholarship?utm_source=customer&utm_medium=copy_link&utm_campaign=p_cf+share-flow-1
