USN Ret. Nancy Lee Bell, 82, of Orlando FL, passed away August 18, 2022. She was born in Troy, NY on May 2, 1940. Nancy graduated from Babylon Long Island High School in 1958. She enlisted in the Navy in 1960. She joined the Hospital Corps school and went on to become a Hospital Corpsman serving during the Vietnam war on the USNS Patch and later, on the USNS Upshur. Nancy spoke often about her travels to Europe, Vietnam, Hawaii, and Asia. Before Nancy could start Medical Administration School, her Navy Career came to a screeching halt. An accident left her in Bethesda Naval Hospital for 10 months and she soon retired from her Navy Career.
A couple of years later, Nancy moved to Florida for warmer weather. She continued work in the medical field as a school nurse for many years and enjoyed the children very much. Nancy continued her education and received an Associates in Arts from Valencia Community College. She was a lifetime member of VFW Post 4287 in Orlando, FL and served in many capacities over the years. Nancy was also a member of the Eagles Club and WAVES Unit 99 for many years. She had a passion for tigers, horses, and had a talent for writing poems.
Nancy was predeceased by her lifetime partner Barbara Ann Victory, her parents Thomas G. Bell and Edna G. Bell (Watson), her brother Kenneth B Bell, her sister Sandra G. Warren, and her brother Thomas J. Bell.
She is survived by sister-in-law Joan Bell of Colrain, MA and sister-in-law, Melanie Bell of Port Orange, FL. She is also survived by many adored cousins, nieces, nephews and her loving cats, Chai & T.C. Her niece Deborah G. Laframboise of Sharon, MA, became her caregiver in the final months to honor her wishes to stay at home. A special thank you to Nancy’s dear friends Marlene Marlow and Laurel Wise who were there for Nancy with their unwavering Love & Support.
Graveside Services will be held at 11am, September 24, 2022, at Chapel Hill Cemetery, 2400 Harrell Rd. Orlando, FL 32822. Immediately following the service, a celebration of her life will be held at VFW Post 4287 located at 3500 S. Goldenrod Rd. Orlando, FL 32822.
