Millard was born May 17, 1917, to Esther Boone and O.H. Smith, Jr., in Pensacola, Florida. Millard grew up in Pensacola and graduated from Stetson University in DeLand, Florida. He served as a naval officer in the South Pacific during World War II.
Millard married Margaret Lybrand in September 1940 in Vero Beach, Florida. Millard and Margaret were parents of three children, Sharon, Ken, and Larry. In 1946, following the completion of Millard’s military duty, he and Margaret moved to Orlando, where Millard founded the Smith-Wilson Company. He was president of the company until his retirement in 1983.
Millard and Margaret joined First Baptist Church of Orlando in 1946 and served as active members for many years, starting the New Member Department and serving as the leaders for 26 years. Millard also taught a class of fifth grade boys in Sunday School for many years. Millard was active in the Orlando Lions Club, having joined in the late 1940’s and served for over 50 years. He served as president in 1952.
Millard is predeceased by his wife, parents, and siblings and is survived by his children, Sharon, Ken and Larry, and his four grandchildren, Summer, Meadow, Danielle and Nicole and seven great grandchildren.
Services will be held in The Henry Chapel at First Baptist Church, Orlando, Florida on Saturday, May 14, 2011 at 10:00 AM. A Reception will follow in Faith Hall.
