Martha June Griffin, age 94, passed away peacefully with many family members by her side Sunday November 24, 2019 due to vascular dementia and pneumonia at Winter Park Hospital in Winter Park, Florida. She was born June 10, 1925 in Arnold, Pennsylvania to Harry and Alda Hickman. She is preceded in death by her brothers, Harry Jr., Web, Gene, sons Philip (Linda), Kenny and Jay (Mary) and leaves her sons, Harold (Gloria), Chuck (Judy) and Bill (Bonnie), 16 grandchildren, 24 great-grandchildren and her many nephews and nieces. All of these she loved and touched deeply.
In 2009 she suffered a stroke requiring learning to walk and talk again and son Phil and his wife Linda moved in with her to be her caregivers. In June of this year her health had worsened requiring her to need the services of Palm Garden Rehabilitation Center and the Westminster Health Center.
She was the strongest woman I have ever met, a cancer survivor, heart attack survivor, stroke survivor, heart stent operation survivor, divorce in marriage survivor, a survivor of raising 6 boys and survivor of experiencing the deaths of three of her sons. She was one tough cookie all the while as facing life challenges as tough as they can be. She always expressed gratitude to God’s blessings, displayed kindness, never complaining and always was there for you to help you in any way she could.
A ‘Celebration of Life’ will be held December 8 at Baldwin Fairchild at Chapel Hill, Orlando, Florida at 1:00 p.m.
