Linda Everson, 78, died at home in Umatilla on October 21, 2020. She was born on March 12, 1942, and raised in Louisville, Kentucky. She is predeceased by her father, Pete Neumann; her mother, Clara Neumann Horan; and her sister, Priscilla Terry. Linda was married to Gene Everson for 17 years until their divorce. She lived in Fort Lauderdale for over 40 years and retired to the rural Eustis/Umatilla area of Florida.
Linda liked to say that she was the son her father never had, as they worked together on many handyman, woodworking, and electrical projects growing up. She renovated two kitchens on her own in beautiful fashion. She also designed and built her husband’s seashell cabinets and display cases, earning her a special award at the Broward County Shell Show in the 1970s. She was often tinkering with projects or working on a renovation, and was the go-to neighborhood person for minor home repair emergencies.
Linda was a fabulous seamstress, having learned at her mother’s knee. She made her own gorgeous wedding dress, many stylish and absolutely beautiful gowns, dresses, and outfits, as well as Barbie doll outfits and her daughter’s wedding veil and three bridesmaids’ dresses.
She had a long and fulfilling career in retail, having worked management at Mr. HOW Warehouse, Sears, Sears Homelife Furniture, Toys R Us, and others.
Linda is survived by her son, Robert Everson, of Davie, Florida; her daughter, Laura Kocis and her husband, Joe Kocis, of Orlando, Florida; her two grandsons, Joseph Kocis and Michael Kocis, of Orlando, Florida; a nephew, Norman Terry Jr. and his wife, Tammi, of Mount Washington, Kentucky; a nephew, Dennis Terry and his wife, Penny, of Shepherdsville, Kentucky; and a niece, Julie Cantrell and her husband, Trevis, of Shepherdsville, Kentucky. She was an amazing mother and loving grandmother.
