Lillian Higgins McLeod Ross died at home on Saturday, December 18, 2010. She was the daughter of the late L.B. McLeod, Sr. of Demopolis, Alabama and the late Adelaide Elizabeth Higgins McLeod of Rocky Mount, North Carolina and Sanford, Florida. She was preceded in death by her son, Harald Martyn Ross in 1972 and husband, Jerry Ross in 2004. Lillian was born in Tampa, Florida on April 24, 1926, moved to Williston, Florida where she attended Williston Elementary School. In 1936, the McLeod family moved to Orlando where Lillian attended St. James School and eventually Orlando High School (OHS) where she graduated in 1944. She completed her formal education at Sullins College in Bristol, Virginia. In 1947, she married Jerry Ross of Orlando, Florida and raised 4 children. She was the founder and Den Mother of Cub Scout Pack #36 at St. James School. She was a member of the Junior League of Orlando, The Rosalind Club and the Country Club of Orlando. Lillian also performed the duties of Minister of the Bereaved for St. James Cathedral. She is survived by her son, Charles Rock Ross, of San Francisco, California; her daughter, Adelaide Elizabeth (Betsy) Ruano and her husband, Vince, Bushnell, Florida; her son Alan McLeod Ross and his wife, Susan, Orlando, Florida; granddaughter, Mary Ruano Lovett and her husband, Greg; grandson, Ryan Christopher Ruano, and great-grandchildren, Lindsey Christian Lovett and Ross Michael Lovett, all of Bushnell, Florida and many nieces and nephews.
Visitation is 5-7 PM on Monday, December 20, 2010 at Carey Hand Colonial Funeral Home, 2811 Curry Ford Road, Orlando with Family Rosary at 7 PM. Mass of Christian Burial will be Tuesday, December 21, 2010, at 10 AM, St. James Cathedral Chapel with Rev. Paul Henry presiding, interment will follow at Greenwood Cemetery. In lieu of flowers, donations may be made to Hospice of the Comforter.
