Lena May McCauley

Lena Mae England McCauley died Monday, January 29 in her sleep. She was 93 years old. Lena was born (with twin sister Lela) to Walter and Effie (Whitley) England, on November 25, 1930. She was born and grew up in Harrison County Kentucky, scant miles from where generations of her forefathers and foremothers lived and died. She and Herschel raised their three sons, Gary, Dale, and Melvin in the area, before moving to Orlando in the late 1960s, where they bought the house in which they lived together until his death in 2020. They were longtime members of Pinecastle Church of Christ. Lena was an absolute powerhouse of a woman– her small frame and stature belied her intensity. She was eminently sensible, efficient, and fiercely loyal. She was also witty and had a playful sense of humor. And, much to her grandchildren’s delight, she could touch the tip of her nose with her tongue. As a young woman, she sewed most of her own clothes from indestructible 60s polyester– these garments she wore for the rest of her life, mending them as needed. She mowed her own lawn until well into her 80s, she made excellent hamburger buns, and her dinner rolls are legendary. And she was an excellent shot, showing up all four of the men in her life. She loved to have photos of her far-away loved ones around her– insisting on pictures of various configurations of folks at every family gathering, and displaying them proudly in her living room and on her fridge. She is survived by one brother and her three sons and two daughters-in-law, (Treva Ferrell McCauley and Ellen Marsh McCauley), four grandchildren (Rachel McCauley Wylie, Sarah McCauley Cutsinger, Kyle McCauley, and Kala McCauley), and ten great-grandchildren.

A visitation for Lena will be held Sunday, February 4, 2024 from 1:00 PM to 5:00 PM at 8092 - Baldwin Fairchild at Chapel Hill, 2420 Harrell Road, Orlando, FL 32817. A graveside service will occur Monday, February 5, 2024 from 11:00 AM to 12:00 PM at Glen Haven Memorial Park, 2300 TEMPLE DR, WINTER PARK, FL 32789.
