Lellan was born October 12, 1928 to Roger and Bertie West in the home of her grandparents in Spivey’s Corner, N.C. She grew up in Washington, D.C. and often spent summers on her grandparents’ farm in North Carolina.
She gave her life to Jesus Christ in her early teens and was a long time member of Grace Baptist church in Washington. There she met and fell in love with Al Wilson, Jr., a young naval seaman. They were married at Grace Baptist on September 8, 1950 and stayed faithful and true to each other until Al’s death seventy years later. While Al was stationed in Newfoundland, Canada they had their first child in 1952. After leaving the service they moved to Orlando, Florida where their second son was born in 1957.
Lellan was a homemaker for many years while they were young and then worked as an office manager in a medical practice until retiring. She elevated home cooking to an art form and was known far and wide for her “Lellan Rolls.”
She was an active member of First Baptist Church of Orlando where she faithfully served and attended. Her faith in Christ was the foundational element of her life and it showed. She was a genuine disciple spending time each day in Bible study and prayer. In the late 1960s Lellan became a founding member of a womens’ Bible study in Winter Park, Florida. She assisted in teaching this group of women that over the following decades had a significant and wide ranging Christian influence on Central Florida.
Lellan was a selfless person. She was fond of the inspirational writings of Amy Charmichael. One of her favorite quotes was, “one can give without loving, but one cannot love without giving.”
Lellan was gentle, kind and compassionate, a constant encourager and found much joy and purpose in helping others. She went to great lengths to Assist and nurture her children, grandchildren and great-grandchildren, all of whom she cherished. Lellan excelled at loving others and was well loved in return.
She is survived by her 2 son’s; Tim (Nan) and Mark, Grandchildren; Andrew (Bethani), Chelsea, Zachary, Angela (Jamie), Daniel (Courtney), and David (Stephanie); Great-Grandchildren, Clementine, Eisley, Monroe, Oak, and Eli.
A funeral service will take place on Friday, August 25, 2023 at Baldwin Fairchild at Chapel Hill located at 2420 Harrell Road, Orlando, Florida 32817 followed by a Burial at Chapel Hill Cemetery.
