Born in Pittsburgh PA to Allison L & Florence R Lewis, Joe grew up in Pittsburgh PA and Daytona Beach FL, graduating from Seabreeze High School and University of Florida. During WW2, Joe served in the Army.
Joe married Margaret Boone Davis Lewis in 1951. Together they built a life in Orlando FL, where Joe taught math at Colonial High School and Valencia Community College. Joe was a committed Christ-follower – serving faithfully as elder, Sunday School teacher, and missions team member at Pine Hills Christian Church.
Even though Joe was 97, Joe’s passing was quite abrupt – as he lived independently, cooked his own meals, drove his car, and loved to eat out and travel!
Joe was preceded in death by his parents; his sisters, Flossie Lewis (Orlando FL) and Connie Fick (Westbrook ME); his brother, Al Lewis Jr (Gainesville FL); and his beloved wife, Margaret.
Following Margaret’s passing in 2006, Joe moved to Holiday FL, where he continued to serve at Generations Christian Church and Sunshine Christian Homes.
Joe is survived by daughters, Becky Lewis Johnson (Trinity FL), Paula Kay Tiedemann (Carrollton TX); grandchildren, Jocelyn Belair (Myrtle Beach SC), Kristin Coursey (Chiang Mai Thailand), Chris Tiedemann (Lubbock TX), and Paul Tiedemann (El Paso TX); great grandchildren, Tyler Belair, Daxton Belair, Killian Coursey, Kinsley Coursey, Gabriel Tiedemann, and Michael Tiedemann; nephew, Ron Fick (Palm Beach FL); niece, Heidi Kelly (Albuquerque NM).
On Tuesday, Mar 26, at 2PM, a graveside memorial service for family and friends will be held at Woodlawn Memorial Park, Orlando FL (400 Woodlawn Cemetery Rd, Gotha FL 34734).
Arrangements are in the care of Baldwin Fairchild at Chapel Hill, Orlando.
As Charles Wesley so powerfully wrote, “Soar we now where Christ hath led. Alleluia! Following our exalted Head, Alleluia! Made like Him, in Him we rise, Alleluia! Ours the cross, the grave, the skies, Alleluia!
“How lucky am I to have something that makes saying goodbye so hard.” ~A.A. Milne
