John “Jack” Wilson, a graduate of Pace College with a degree in business administration, joined Shulton Inc., in 1946, thus beginning what was to become a long career in the cosmetic business. Jack died of natural causes January 31, 2011, in The Villages, Florida.
While at Shulton, Jack held a number of responsible positions, including, Assistant Controller, Regional Manager and Sales Manager. When Shulton bought Carven Perfumes, Jack was appointed Vice President & General Manager. Later Carven and Jacqueline Cochran, Inc., merged, and Jack was named VP of Sales. Jack also owned a worldwide military sales organization, Wilson Associates, which dealt in perfumes and cosmetics.
John Tevendale Wilson was born September 17, 1919 in Aberdeen, Scotland and immigrated to America with his family and lived in Astoria, New York in 1922. Jack joined the military in July 1941, serving as a Lieutenant in the U.S. Air Force during World War II. Jack was flying his B-17 Flying Fortress in March 1944 when it was shot down over enemy territory and he was captured and imprisoned at Germany’s Stalag Luft 3, until the end of the war.
Had the war not broken out in 1941, Jack would have tried out for a position with the New York Yankees. Jack’s father, William “Billy” Wilson, was a U.S. soccer fullback who spent six seasons in the American Soccer League and earned two caps with the U.S. National Team; playing for the Brooklyn Wanderers and New York Nationals before retiring.
Mr. Wilson is survived by the wife he adored for 63 years, Catherine Wilson; two sons, John, of Phoenix, Arizona, and Jim, of Carmel, Indiana; two daughters, Jane of Orlando, FL, and Jeanne of Carmel, IN. But his most treasured family members were his 3 wonderful grandchildren; James, Catherine and Katie.
