James Leo Tobin, 83, passed away peacefully on Sunday, June 12, 2016, at home surrounded by his family and dog. He was born in Vicksburg, Mississippi on April 22, 1933 and was the son of the late George and Stella Tobin. Jim served in the Army with the 531th AAA Battalion at Ellsworth AFB, South Dakota. James earned a BSEE and MSEE from Washington University, St. Louis, Missouri and was inducted into the Honorary Engineering Society Tau Beta Pi. Jim and his family have lived in Florida since 1961, and he retired from Lockheed Martin after 34 years of service and was involved in the design of Telemetry and Flight Safety systems. Jim is survived by his beloved wife of 55 years, Audrey Blasé Tobin; son James (Janice), three daughters Susan, Kathleen and Eileen (Rodney) Beatty, two rambunctious grandsons Jason and Johnathon, sister Dorothy Lenski of Tulsa, Oklahoma, nieces Anne, Joan, Judy, and Jean, nephews Jerry and Billy, and his loyal dog, Archie. Jim met his future wife on a blind date at a Washington University College of Engineering graduation dance. He got married on his birthday so he would never forget his anniversary. He was a very easy-going man with a dry sense of humor. Jim loved his family, fishing, Bill O’Reilly, the Big Bang Theory TV show, genealogy, cutting out numerous newspaper articles for his children, and the Notre Dame Fighting Irish. He was very well loved and will be missed by many. The family would like to thank Hospice of the Comforter for their kindness during Jim’s final days. Baldwin Fairchild Funeral Home.
