Our mom “Joyce” was born in St. Ann’s Bay, Jamaica to Hilda Ann and Stephen Stanley Anderson in 1927. She was the 10th child of ten children: eight girls and two boys. Mommy was always vibrant and had an infectious smile and laugh. She loved the Lord from an early age. At age eight, she accepted the Lord as savior and was the youngest among her siblings to make this profession of faith.
At age 18, she graduated from Tutorial High School and secured her first job with the Jamaica Telephone Company. She worked in various towns. As time progressed, mom moved to Kingston where she met her husband, Austin Lindo, and was married on January 17th, 1959.
Daddy saw mom’s potential and encouraged her to start Jamaica’s first Telephone Operating Academy, which she operated from 1960 to 1963, to great acclaim. After having children, she continued to work, first at the Skyline Hotel in Kingston, where she was a supervisor and later with the Jamaica Tourist Board, where she participated in the “Jamaica Meet the People” Program.
In July 1977, she immigrated to the U.S.. Within the last 45 years of her life, she was a valued mentor, counselor, prayer warrior, friend, and “mother” to many. People gravitated to her from all walks of life. She loved people and invested her time and energy in making people feel loved.
She leaves behind a loving son and daughter, daughter-in-law, cousins, nieces and nephews.
