Daniel Munoz, 77, of Orlando, FL passed away on Friday, January 4th, 2019. He was born on September 24th, 1941 in Yabucoa, Puerto Rico. He was the son of Juan and Benedicta Munoz. Daniel is survived by his wife of 48 years, Norma Munoz, four children and their spouses: Teresa and Frankie Guzman, Daniel and Yobanka Munoz, Tina Munoz, David and Patricia Munoz, four sisters: Felicita “Irma” Munoz, Carmen Nilda Serrano, Lydia “Mercy” Negron, Maria “Soqui” Munoz and one brother: Ernesto “Tito” Munoz. Eight grandchildren also survive him: Bianca, Yssrael, Jonathan, Cisco, Julia, Alyssa, Lauryn, and Alayna.
Daniel was a loving husband and a devoted father. He loved classic “Jíbaro” music, cooking, boating, playing dominos, gardening, tending his chicken coop and most of all spending time with his family. He was passionate about keeping the family bond tight. He was well known for his contagious energy, smiling face, jokes for all, incredible food, and willingness to lend a helping hand to anyone who crossed his path.
As a young boy in Puerto Rico he ran a snack stand and rode his horse in his home town, La Pica. In 1960 he moved to New York with his sisters, Irma and Nilda, to provide a better life for his family. Together they worked to bring the rest of the family to NY. They moved from Hart St. to Pulaski St. to Harrison St. in Brooklyn. On August 2nd, 1969, on a trip to Bear Mountain, he met his future bride, Norma Diaz. On August 1st, 1970, he married Norma and moved to 128 St. in Richmond Hill, Queens. They raised 4 children and in 1990, moved to Orlando, Florida – with the same mission of providing a better life for his family.
Although he left Puerto Rico at 14 and lived the rest of his life in New York & Florida, he cherished his Puerto Rican roots. Love for his culture was apparent in the music, traditions, food and especially in his mission to always keep family and friends close.
Everyone who knew Daniel, has their own personal stories that will bring us laughs forever. He will always be remembered as he helped shape and touch so many lives. We will miss him but his legacy will always remain close to our heart.
