Carrie Staves Beck of Orlando passed away on Sunday June 13, 2010, at the age of 48 after a long illness. Carrie suffered the onset of kidney disease in childhood and received a kidney transplant from her father. As a young adult, she joined the Disney cast ‘Zoo Crew’ as the graceful animated Minnie Mouse. She had the opportunity to travel with other cast members as Walt Disney World ambassadors, and during this time in her life she made many lifelong friends, including future husband John Beck. The greatest fulfillment of her life was during the 13 years with John; together, they established a shelter for neglected, abused, and abandoned animals. Their adoptees included many cats and dogs, as well as horses, donkeys, exotic lizards, and even a full grown black Angus bull, Norman. Carrie and John had raised Norman from a calf, and had just visited him last week. This was her life’s mission; to share her unselfish love with all living creatures.
Carrie is preceded in death by her brother Jeffrey. She is survived by her parents, Ralph and Patricia Staves, her brothers Ralph W. and David Staves, her sister Jennifer, and brother-in-law Don Christenberry.
A memorial service will be held at Carey Hand Colonial Funeral Home, 2811 Curry Ford Road, Orlando, at 2 p.m. Saturday June 19, 2010. Friends and relatives are respectfully invited. Instead of flowers, donations may be made in the name of Carrie Staves to the Leesburg or Orlando Humane Society.
