Mrs. Nicholson was preceded in death by her parents, Roy Luther Futch, Sr. and Annie Martha Futch, two brothers, Roy Luther Futch, Jr. and Talmadge Roosevelt Futch, and two sisters, Jewel Texas Futch and Eunies Missouri Futch.
She was a devoted wife, mother, grandmother, and great-grandmother. She is survived by her husband of 65 years, Donald Lee Nicholson, a daughter, Donna Louise Ziegler, a son, David (Terri) Nicholson, three grandchildren, Autumn Nicole Ziegler, Donald (Ashley) Nicholson, and Katherine (Zach) Bass, and three great-grandchildren, Noah, Gavin, and Luke. She also leaves other nieces, nephews, and family in Georgia, Indiana, California, Arizona, Wisconsin, Texas, Virginia, Kentucky, Ohio, and Oregon.
Mrs. Nicholson was a member of the 1949 graduation class of Andrew Jackson High School in Jacksonville, Florida, and was voted most athletic by her class. She was a member of the Pepsi Cola Women’s Basketball League in the early 1950s with her sister Jewel.
She was a long-time civil servant working at the Naval Surface Warfare Center in Crane, Indiana, and at Naval Air Station Cecil Field in Jacksonville, Florida. She retired from Federal service in 1990.
Mrs. Nicholson was known to many with her involvement in her church and was a long-serving member of her Ladies Sunday School Class and Bible Study. Mrs. Nicholson was also an avid reader, cook, seamstress, and crafter. In the summertime, she loved to visit Jacksonville Beach with her family and friends and swim with her grandchildren at the pool.
She will be deeply missed by her loving family, wonderful friends, and everyone whose lives she touched over the years.
The family of Mrs. Nicholson honored her request for cremation. Her remains will be entombed at the Jacksonville National Cemetery. A memorial service will be held on Saturday, March 31, 2018 at 11:00 AM, at the Hardage-Giddens Rivermead Funeral Home located at 127 Blanding Blvd, Orange Park, Florida.
