Karolyn Kay Kyser was born on September 5th, 1935 to Gail Evelyn Jones Kyser and Benjamin Franklin Kyser, Sr in Miami, Oklahoma. She graduated from Miami HS in 1953 and attended Graceland College in Lamoni, Iowa. Kay joined the US Navy in June, 1957, she was the first enlisted woman at Cecil Field, Jacksonville, FL. She served for twenty years and retired with the rank of Chief Petty Officer.
She was a lifelong member of the RLDS Church, serving as organist and for over forty years as financial office for the Green Cove Springs, Florida congregation. Her lifelong hobby was traveling. She visited six continents, saw three of the Ancient Wonders of the World and went on 56 cruises around the world.
Kay was pre-deceased by her parents, five brothers – Donald (Hazel), Bob, Gene (Mayme), Ben (Betty), Bill (Reberta), Dorothy Lou, her lifelong friend, Commander Elizabeth Barrett (USN Retired), niece Sue, and great niece Jennifer.
She was devoted to her immediate and extended family as well as countless friends. She is survived by her daughter, Tamara Kitchens (David Webster) of Jacksonville, FL; her sister-in-law Alyce Kyser of Grain Valley, MO; two nieces – Donna Allen of Machiasport, Maine and Barbara Collier (Richard) of Joplin, MO; two nephews – Bob Kyser (Diane) of Independence, MO; Geoff Kyser (Regina) of Miami, OK. She is also survived by her lifelong friend, Reva McFerron Kindsvater of Vinita, OK.
Funeral Service will be held on Friday, February 3rd, 2023
Visitation begins at 9am, service 10am, at Community of Christ Church, 517 East BJ Tunnel Blvd, Miami, OK.
A celebration of life will be held on Saturday, February 25th, 2023 at 10:30am at the Hardage-Giddens Rivermead Funeral Home, 127 Blanding Blvd, Orange Park, FL 32073.
