Emily L. Brown, born in 1935 in St. Louis, Missouri and passed away April 6, 2025, in Orange Park, Florida. She lived and attended school in both St. Louis and Mountain View, Missouri. Emily was valedictorian at Mountain View High School and attended Washington University, graduating with a degree in Business Administration. She later earned a Master’s Degree in Finance from Roosevelt University. Emily joined the U.S. Navy in 1956, was commissioned as an officer, and served for nine years, attaining the rank of Lieutenant Commander. She left the Navy in 1964 to raise her three youngest sisters after the death of her parents. Emily moved to Jacksonville, Florida, in 1967 and became active in golf, both as an administrator and a competitor. She served as president of several local golf organizations, including the Jacksonville Women’s Golf Association and the Florida Women’s State Golf Association—both of which made her an honorary lifetime member. Emily was also a member of the United States Golf Association’s Women’s Regional Affairs Committee and a director of the Women’s Southern Golf Association. Emily founded Jacksonville Area Team Play for Women. As a player, Emily won the Jacksonville Women’s Golf Association Championship and 30 club championships at various area clubs. She also made 10 holes-in-one and shot her age several times. Significant awards include the Jacksonville Area Golf Association’s “Long Term Service Award” and nominations for the Florida State Golf Association’s Hall of Fame. Emily would like to be remembered as one who “played golf by the rules” and who lived life by the “Golden Rule.
