Ellen Calder Rankin Clark, age 79, died on May 1, 2019 in Orange Park, FL. Ellen was a 45-year resident of Orange Park, after relocating from Alexandria, VA with her husband.
Mrs. Clark was born in Charlotte, NC and lived in Gastonia, NC for 12 years before moving to Greensboro, NC. She was a 1958 graduate of Greensboro Senior High School and a 1962 graduate of Salem College in Winston Salem, NC. She was a former resident of Richmond, VA where she worked for Life of Virginia.
Mrs. Clark served in various positions in the Girl Scouts in Clay County for 25 years, beginning as a Clay County troop leader in 1980. She was treasurer of the Orange Park Service Unit and received multiple awards and honors for her volunteer work. She was Business Manager of Kateri Girl Scout Resident Camp in Orange Springs, FL for many years.
In 2002, she was a Charter Member of the Salvation Army of Clay County Women’s Auxiliary, where she served as Treasurer and multi-faceted volunteer including the Empty Bowl’s luncheon and the food pantry.
Mrs. Clark was an avid supporter and volunteer with youth sports travel teams for girls including softball, volleyball, track and golf. She was a member of the Gutter Dusters Bowling League in Orange Park for over 25 years.
Survivors include her daughter, Susan Hunter Clark and granddaughter Emily Hunter Kilgore of Warner Robins, GA, daughter, Joanne (Jody) Rankin Clark and daughter-in-law Shannon Kathleen Moore of Jacksonville, FL, and her sister, Janet Sloan Rankin of Atlanta, GA.
Ellen Calder Rankin Clark was preceded in death by her husband, Lt. Commander Robert T. Clark of Orange Park, FL; her parents, James Whiten Rankin and Susan Calder Rankin of Greensboro, NC; and her brother James Whiten Rankin, Jr. of Rock Hill, SC.
Memorial services will be held 11 AM, Monday, May 6, 2019 at The Salvation Army, 2795 County Road 220, Middleburg, FL with Major Phillip Irish officiating.
