Dozier Wayne Lee, Sr., 83, of Green Cove Springs, FL passed away Tuesday, October 6, 2015. Over the last two months he battled an injured neck, pneumonia and lung disease from asbestos. He joins Clare Sikes Lee, his wife and Tony Lee, his son, as well as brothers Park, Billy, Gene, and sisters Sue, Cava, parents Charlie and Lila, in the Glory of the Lord. D. W. was born in Tallahassee, FL on February 2, 1932, the twelfth of a family of twelve. After Leon High School he joined the Navy and served 4 years as Chief Machinist Engineer on the destroyer USS Hunt (DD-674) during the Korean War. Next he joined the Florida Highway Patrol and moved to Jacksonville, FL., where he met Clare and started a family. Eventually, they moved to Ft. Lauderdale, FL. where sons, Dozier Wayne Lee, Jr. and Charles Anthony (Tony) Lee (deceased) were raised. D. W. retired a Lieutenant after 29 years on the patrol. After several years in commercial trucking safety and security he retired with Clare to Green Cove Springs. Before Clare’s untimely death they were very involved in Fleming Island Methodist Church. D.W. remained active in this same church. He was also an active member of the, Florida Association of State Troopers, Green Cove Springs Elks Lodge #1892 and the VFW.
D. W. is survived by his son Wayne, daughter-in-law of 31 years Vivian Anne, grandchildren Dozier, III of Atlanta, GA and Jessica Lee of Wilmington Island, GA. Also daughter-in-law Sue of Orange Park, grandchildren David and fiancée Sarah Spicer of Jacksonville Beach, Amy of Orlando and Kevin Lee of Orange Park. He is also survived by brothers Clyde, Edwin, Edwin’s wife Marion, Tallahassee, Gene’s wife Hilda, Jacksonville and sisters Belle Sykes, Quincy and Martha Herold, West Palm Beach. D. W. leaves numerous nephews and nieces from the Lee family and the Sikes family. As well as his companion of 12 years, Barbara Hull and her family. On Friday, February 5, at 10 AM, there will be a Committal Service at the Jacksonville National Cemetery, 4083 Lannie Rd, Jacksonville, FL 32218. At 12 PM there will be a Memorial Service presided by Pastor Ryan Hall at Fleming Island United Methodist Church, 7170 US-17, Fleming Island, FL 32003, followed by a lunch reception. The family requests that in lieu of flowers, donations be made to Camp Scholarships or Youth and Children’s Ministries at Fleming Island United Methodist Church.
