Donald (Don) Lee Thompson, 85, died on August 19, 2013, in Jacksonville, FL, surrounded by his loving family. He was the son of Albert and Emma Mae Thompson and was raised in Jeffersonville, Indiana. He was preceded in death by his parents and brothers; William, Edward, David, and Richard Allen Thompson.
After serving in the United States Army, Donald married his sweetheart, Charlotte Ann Hite, and they settled in Miami, FL where they raised their five children. Don worked for National Airlines in Miami, and later, upon moving to Melbourne, FL, worked for Lexus of Melbourne. Don and Charlotte most recently resided in Fleming Island, FL. Wherever he went, Don made many friends and will always be remembered for his big smile, wonderful sense of humor, and engaging personality.
Don is survived by his loving wife, Charlotte, their children; Richard (Debbie) Thompson, West Palm Beach, FL; Patty Vasquez, Vero Beach, FL; Marty (Marcia) Thompson, Fleming Island, FL; Donna (Mike) Slomins, Melbourne, FL; Mary (John) Briscoe, Fleming Island, FL, their thirteen grandchildren and one great grandchild.
He is also survived by his sister, Leta Marie Thompson Watson Barrow, Crestwood, KY.
In lieu of flowers, the family requests donations be made to Northeast Florida Community Hospice, 4266 Sunbeam Road, Jacksonville, Florida, 32257.
Services will be held on Saturday, August 31, 2013, at 11:00 a.m. at Florida Memorial Gardens, 5950 S. US Hwy 1, Rockledge, FL 32955. (321) 636-5054. Pastor John Hill of Suntree United Method Church, where Don and Charlotte were church members, will preside. A luncheon will follow for family and friends, at the Life Events Center at Florida Memorial Gardens.
