Anna K. Snell

SNELL Anna Kathryn Snell (Van Nest) passed away on April 4, 2013 after a lengthy struggle with lung cancer. She was a loving wife, devoted mother, wonderful grandmother, and caring friend to all who knew her. She will always be in our hearts.

Ann was predeceased in death by her parents, Gilbert and Marion Van Nest and in-laws Howard and Ida Snell. She is survived by the love of her life, her best friend and husband of nearly 50 years, William H. Snell, Jr.; son, David Jonathan Snell; daughter in-law, Jennifer Snell (Hussey); daughter, Kathryn Ann Jackson (Snell); son in-law, Ernest R. Jackson IV; four granddaughters, Courtney Stanley, Carlie Jackson, Gillian Snell and Erin Snell and many loving friends.

Born in East Orange, NJ, she graduated from East Orange High School and then went on to graduate from Simmons College in 1962, earning a degree in Education. Ann and Bill married on 1963 and she helped put Bill through dental school on the "wife support program". School was followed by 33 years of Navy life, with the family living in various parts of the world. After Bill’s retirement, they moved back to Orange Park, FL, and enjoyed their retirement life, especially their travels with friends.

Ann dedicated her life to her family and volunteer work. While at the US Naval Academy she was the lead in weekly arrangements for Chapel flowers, she was past president the Naval Station Long Beach, CA Navy Relief Society, Co-Chairwoman of Temptations, a retail shop raising money for military charities, and past president and active member of the GK chapter of the P.E.O. Sisterhood.

A memorial will be celebrated at 2:00 pm on Saturday, April 13, 2013 at the Hardage-Giddens Rivermead Funeral Home, 127 Blanding Blvd. Orange Park, Fl 32073 .
