Funeral services for Wilma T. Weigel, 96, Debary, who died Monday, January 12, 2015, will be at 11 am, Saturday, January 17th at Deltona Memorial Funeral Home, 1295 Saxon Blvd., Orange City. The family will receive friends from 9 to 11 am prior to the funeral service. Interment will be 3:30 pm. Saturday at Forest Hills Memorial Park, Palm City. Mrs. Weigel was born in Gilbertsville, N.Y. and moved to this area in 1982 from Palm City. She retired in 1979 from the Business Affairs office of Palm Beach Junior College. She was a member of Emmaus Lutheran Church, Orange City, American Legion Post 259, served as a chairman of Girl's State, and served with the American Red Cross during World War II. Mrs. Weigel was involved in Scouting most of her life and had many accomplishments both in and out of Scouting. She was a National Rifle Association Certified Instructor. She held a pilot's license, ham radio operator's license as well as a Captain's License with the Florida Power Squadron. Mrs. Weigel received the Religious Award and Servant of Youth Award from the Lutheran Church and the Silver Beaver Award, which is the highest religious honor in Scouting. She was the District Scouter of the Year, a member of the Order of the Arrow and the first female Assistant District Commissioner in Tuscarora District. Her gift of a lifetime in Scouting came in the form of a special membership award from the Eagle Scout Association recognizing her for presenting 35 Eagle Scout awards. Mrs. Weigel was preceded in death by her husband of 66 years, Fred C. Weigel; one son, Frederick H. Weigel (Paula), West Palm Beach; brother Howard L. Tice, Gilbertsville, N.Y.; and sister, Laura Janet Pinckney (Richard), Middletown, N.Y. She is survived by two sons, Richard J. Weigel (Barbara), DeBary and Robert F. Weigel (Perla), Cincinnati, OH; 12 grandchildren; 27 great-grandchildren; and 17 great-great grandchildren. In lieu of flowers, the family prefers memorial donations be made to the American Heart Association.
