On Saturday, March 12, 2022, Petrina Rose lost her beloved husband of 43 years, Richard. He was 87 years old. He is survived by his two sisters, Paula Kessler and Marcia Casaletto. “Uncle Richie” was loved by all – especially his nieces and nephews. He was a devoted husband, brother, uncle, and warrior for our country, and friend. He loved spending time with those he loved, talking about everything and anything, and especially over a good meal. Words can not express his devotion for Petrina. He lived to love and adore her.
Richie loved his sports and was an avid Football and Baseball fan. He would often be found in his favorite chair yelling for (or at) his team, the NY Giants or Mets to win (or any New York team for that matter).
He was born on April 6, 1934 in the Brooklyn borough of New York City, New York, and was the eldest of three children. He attended Alexander Hamilton High School in Elmsford New York (finishing in the Air Force). Wanting to enlist in the military, Richie went down to the Navy enlisting office in March of 1952, but learned of a 3 month waiting period, so he walked next door to the Air Force recruiting office, left for Texas 3 days later, and the rest is history. He served 22 years, spending time in Italy, Spain, Germany and his favorite Thailand, among other places.
On October 25th, 1978, Richie married the love of his life, Petrina Rose Lo Giudici. Over the next forty-three years of their lives, they would move from New York to Florida, share a number of adventures and eventually settle in for a nice long retirement in Deltona, Florida. It was Richie’s goal to be married for 44 years to his wife, who is going to be 77 this year. He would have been 88 in April. Although he did not achieve those goals, it drove him to overcome his cancer these past few years and talked about it often.
He is survived by his wife, Petrina Rose Weinstock; his two sisters, Paula Kessler and Marcia Casaletto, his nephews Keith (Judy) Kessler, Kent (Michael Jancik) Kessler, and predeased by niece Karen Star Kessler and nephew Kirk Perry Kessler; and John Casaletto, and great nephews and nieces.
A Funeral Mass will be held at Our Lady of the Lakes Catholic Church in Deltona, Florida on Thursday, March 17th–St. Patrick’s Day–at 12 o’clock followed by entombment at Deltona Memorial Gardens in Orange City at 1:30 p.m. Visitation will be at 11 a.m. prior to the funeral service.
