Richard enlisted in the United States Armed Forces in March 1965, served honorably, and was discharged on the 31st of March 1969. He received commendations, medals, citations for expert rifle M/1, expert rifle M/14 and good conduct medals, among others.
Richard joined the staff of New York City Department of Corrections in 1967 where he served for 22 years. He was well loved by supervisors and fellow staff members and respected by inmates. He then moved up the ranks from Officer to Deputy Warden at retirement. Richard took the exam for the Top 40 Program and came in #1.
On retirement from the New York City Department of Corrections, Richard joined his wife, Shirley, in Deltona, Florida where he became a member of Directors of Central Florida Family Health Center in the year 2000, where he served for 14 years, then retired.
In the year 1999, Richard became a Pastoral care volunteer at Florida Hospital, Fish Memorial and served faithfully for 17 years until 2016.
Richard also loved to stay in education, where he received his Master of Science degree in criminal justice administration. He also received a Doctor of Science degree in public administration.
Richard is survived by his wife Shirley Goring; daughters, Lisa and Simone (Waynesha); sons, Richard, Jeffrey and Hughburne; sisters, Judy and Mary; grandsons, Justin and Jared; granddaughters Jenay and Ty’ana; and many family and friends, nieces and nephews.
