She was born on June 28, 1934, in Niort, France, a daughter to the late Martin and Tecla Sobon Wypchlo. After high school, she worked at a United States Army Base in France. Marcelle married the love of her life, August P. Schmidt in 1961 and moved to Queens, New York. Together they raised their children and after they were grown, Marcelle reentered the workforce, working in office administration importing French restaurant supplies. After retirement, in 1996, August and Marcelle moved to Deltona, Florida. She was a Catholic by faith and was a member of the St. Clement Catholic Church in Jamaica, New York.
Marcelle is survived by two sons, Gerard and Ronald Schmidt both of New York; two granddaughters, Monique McClam of Deltona, Florida and Nicole McClam and her husband Stephen, of Sanford, Florida; three great grandchildren, Aria, Tess, and Naya.
In addition to her parents, her husband, August P. Schmidt and a daughter, Marie Christine McClam, preceded Marcelle in death.
A Mass of Christian Burial will be held at 1:00 p.m., Friday, June 3, 2022 at the Deltona Memorial Funeral Home; 1295 Saxon Blvd; Orange City, Florida, presided by Father Chris Hoffmann of the Lady of the Lakes Catholic Church.
