He was born in Jacksonville, Florida on July 30, 1944, to Spencer and Lucille VanZant.
Larry attended Yulee High School.
Upon graduation Larry entered the service with the US Navy where he served as part of a reconnaissance squadron on the USS Ranger during Vietnam. He received an honorable discharge in 1968. He was very proud of the time spent serving his country and always remained very patriotic.
Upon returning home, he attended Jones College where he earned his Bachelors Degree in 1973.
Larry went on to have a career in Insurance.
He also spent 4 years as a franchise owner for Pinch-A-Penny in the mid 90s.
He was a member of Eastside Baptist Church, the VFW, and The Moose Lodge. His love and passion for classic cars led him to the DeLand Area Cruisers where he had the honor to serve as their president.
Larry had many hobbies and interests including: The Florida Gators, restoring classic cars, sports, hot wings, music and dancing- or as he called it, pickin' and grinnin'!
He was preceded in death by his dad, Spencer, and his mom, Lucille.
He is survived by his son, Erik VanZant (Brittany), his daughter, Ashley Dietz (Stephen), his sister, Lynda Sedlak (Brian), his nephews, Dink and Spencer, his loving girlfriend, Margie, and many other family and friends.
His service will take place on Monday, November 20, 2023 at Eastside Baptist Church in DeLand.
Visitation will be at the church at 10:00 am. The service will follow at 11:00 am.
The burial will be in Jacksonville, Florida at the Jacksonville National Cemetery at 2:30 pm.
In lieu of flowers, please make a donation in Larry's name to the Wounded Warrior Project or Tunnels To Towers.
