Larry E Hoyer of Deltona, Florida passed peacefully with family around him on June 12, 2021. Larry was born on May 24, 1944 in Racine, WI and was preceded in death by his parents, Elmer and Grace (Jorgensen) Hoyer and Olga Stienke. He is survived by his wife of 55 years Sheila “Sam” Hoyer, daughters Anne (Zack) Jarvis, Aimie (Larry “JR”) Gallenberger and Abbi Hoyer, sister Gretchen Johnson, and brother Mark Hoyer. Larry is also survived by his dear long-time friend Tom (Bonnie) Augustynowicz.
Larry had many interests including cross-country skiing, all types of fishing, bird hunting with his beloved dog Shane, taking trips out West for deer and elk, boating-especially on the Mississippi, space travel and exploration, classic trains, but his passion was classic automobiles. Larry enjoyed time at the tracks of Wisconsin back in the day with one of his favorite memories being the opportunity to race Shirley Muldowney at the Union Gove drag strip when she was qualifying for her pro license. He loved telling people “she blew my doors off!” Larry’s most recent project was his ‘70 Chev C-10 stepside he affectionately referred to as “Rex”.
Larry was a carpenter, plasterer, and a Heat Treat Specialist at Ladish/ATI in Cudahay, WI and member of the International Brotherhood of Boilermakers Local 1509 for 32 years before retiring to Florida in 2001.
Arrangements have been entrusted to Deltona Memorial Funeral Home in Deltona Florida. Per Larry’s request there will be no memorial service. In lieu of flowers, please leave memories and condolences at in the online guest book below.
Larry’s remains will be returning home to Wisconsin.
