Joseph Salvatore Olivieri, 97. Of Deltona passed away on Sunday, November 15, 2015. Joseph was born on March 29, 1918 in Queens, New York; the son of John and Angela Olivieri. Joseph served our country honorably in the United States Navy as a Seabee during World War II in Africa and Normandy. He married his bride Mary Papale Olivieri on September 28, 1941 and the shared 74 years of marriage. Joseph was a past president of the Sons of Italy of Deltona. He enjoyed bingo, playing cards with his buddies, and the New York Yankees. Joe worked as a painter, notably working on the construction of Disney prior to its opening.
Joseph leaves behind to honor his memory, his wife, son John Olivieri of Deltona, grandsons Geoffrey Olivieri of Albemarle, NC, Michael Olivieri of Patchogue, NY, great grandchildren Gavin, Graylin, Emily, and Ryan Olivieri, as well as numerous nieces and nephews. He was preceded in death by his parents, a brother William Olivieri, and sisters Angelina Livoti and Josephine Pirazzo.
Visitation will be held Thursday, November 19, 2015 from 4:00 to 8:00 pm at the Deltona Memorial Funeral Home. Funeral services will be Friday, November 20, 2015 at 10:00 am in the funeral home with Father Kenny Aquino officiating. Entombment will follow in Deltona Memorial Gardens with military honors. A luncheon will follow at the Sons of Italy. In lieu of flowers, the family asks donations be made in Joe’s honor to Halifax Hospice of Volusia Flagler.
