She was born January 9th, 1944 in Toledo, Ohio to the late Rogers T. Shock and late Josephine E. Jeko.
Jan was the beloved matriarch of her family. Her devotion to family was expressed by her 46 years of marriage to William L. Payne. Always the gentle sentimental, she couldn’t wait to plan the next family get together to insure she was always surrounded by her children and grandchildren. Known for her infectious smile and demeanor, Jan was a beautiful and gentle soul but never vain. With her signature bouffant golden locks that radiated in the Florida sun, Jan was forever an optimistic ray of sunshine no-matter the weather.
Known for her many desserts and delicious home cooked meals, family get togethers were memories in the making. From her mouthwatering meat loaf to her delectable German Chocolate cake, Jan had a passion for cooking that stemmed from her cake design company back in the day. Her planned sleepovers for her children and grandchildren throughout the years would turn into slumber parties with many baked goods, root beer floats, homemade cookies, and confectionary treats.
Jan demonstrated compassion throughout her life from volunteering as a room mother with her children and grandchildren’s classes, babysitting for family, friends and neighbors, and even helping with Meals-on-Wheels. Jan dedicated over a decade to volunteering for the Volusia County Schools, helping whomever was in need. Whether near or far, Jan was always a phone call away.
Jan was preceded in death by her father Rogers, mother Josephine, sister Nancy (Paul) Brose, and she is survived by her loving husband William L Payne, daughter Sherrie (Michael) Moore, son Michael (Diane) Allison, daughter Laurie (James) Easterbrook, daughter Heather (Shawn) McKechnie, daughter Jennifer (Ryan) Evans and son Joshua (Melissa) Payne, 12 grandchildren; Joey, Timmy, Britni, Kenny, Christopher, Shane, Ashley, Emma, Patrick, Miles, Maddilynn, and one on the way, and 4 great-grandchildren; Joseph, Kourtney, Savannah and Jasper, and two sisters, Betty Danfelser, and Suzanne Burrill.
