Herbert Richard Gray (lovingly known as Pop-Pop), age 86, of Orange City, FL, passed away November 1, 2014, of natural causes. Herbert was born September 14, 1928 in The Plains, Virginia. His parents were Henry Uston Gray and Edna Gray. He was married to MaryLena Franzoni and she preceded him in death in 1998. Herbert is survived by his three children, Gary, Steven, and Caren; his grandchildren, Angela, Tanya, Steven, Brandie, Brandon, Jonathan, Hannah, Caitlin, Megan, and Christa and by great-grandchildren, William, Austin, Emily, and Alexander.
During his final hours, he was surrounded by his children and his beloved cousin, Virginia Graham. Funeral services will be held at Deltona Presbyterian Church in Deltona, FL on Veteran's Day, November 11th at 4 pm.
Growing up in the Depression Era was difficult for Herbert and was also made especially hard after losing his mother to TB when he was only 12 years old, so he decided to join the Army early. He became a corporal and proudly served as a dental assistant from the end of WWII and also during the Korean War. He met and married MaryLena Franzoni in 1952 and together they did a great job raising a family. They moved to Florida to live out their days in the warmth of the Florida sunshine.
Herbert loved being outside and enjoyed making outdoor living spaces beautiful. He prized quietness and stillness and strove to make his surroundings serene and peaceful.
He cherished his hometowns of The Plains and Warrenton, VA. He will be interred in Marshall Cemetery, Marshall, VA alongside his wife and among a great many of his family members in the Gray family burial site.
