Affectionately known as “Babe” and “Flo”, Mrs. Smith was born on December 14, 1931 in Levant, Maine to the late Jasper G. and Marjorie F. Goodwin. She was a 1950 graduate of Bangor High School in Bangor, Maine. She married her life partner and companion, Donald Smith September 29, 1951. She and Don travelled extensively and camped throughout the United States and Canada. She also had a 30-year career for Sears and Roebuck Company in audit and collections during a time when women did not typically work outside of the home.
She was a member of the Order of the Eastern Star, Grange, and VFW Ladies Auxiliary, Daughters of the American Revolution, Auxiliary of the Korean War Veterans Association and the Military Order of the Purple Heart Auxiliary. She was a talented artist who crocheted lap robes for Veterans in local nursing homes throughout. She also created Blue Ribbon award winning Pine Needle Baskets in Maine and Florida.
She was a loving wife, mother, and grandmother who was an excellent role model for her family.
Her parents, sister, Dorothy Workman, and five brothers Charlmers, Norman, Forest, Jesse, and J. Fuller precede her in death.
Survivors include her husband of 70 years, Don Smith; children, Donna McAvoy (John) and Debora Smith; grandchildren, Cristin Kominski (Eric), Nicholas Leavitt (Stephanie), Julie Taboada-Leavitt (Andres), Colter Bush and Leigh Bush; and four great grandchildren, Corinne Kominski, Mary Kominski, John Kominski, and Tiago Goodwin Taboada-Leavitt as well as many nieces and nephews.
A graveside service will be held at 11:30 am on Wednesday, June 15, 2022 at Cape Canaveral National Cemetery.
In Lieu of flowers, the family prefers memorials be made to the charity of your choice.
