He was born in Waseca, Minnesota on April 22, 1930 to the late Arthur & Martha Schmidt.
Dale served in the U.S. Army, and met his wife, Ellen Powell, in Washington, D.C. at the USO. They were married 65 years. They had two sons, Larry and Jeffrey (wife, Elizabeth), and one granddaughter. They lived in Waseca for approximately two years, and then returned to northern Virginia. Dale succeeded in his field as a mechanical draftsman for a number of different electronics-oriented companies until they retired to Florida in 1992. He even holds a patent for a tool that remains useful in his industry.
Dale enjoyed life in so many ways – he was a serious bowler in leagues multiple times a week; he loved hunting, fishing, wood working, painting, and car shows, especially restoring old cars, namely the 1930 Model-A that he restored with his son, and his red 1967 Camaro. As the years went by, Dale would steal away on his riding lawnmower to continue to feel the wind in his hair. And in-between times, you might find him cheering for his Washington Redskins and Florida Gators.
He was preceded in death by his dear parents; and siblings, Lowell and Virgil.
Dale is survived by his loving wife, Ellen Schmidt; sons, Larry and Jeffrey (Elizabeth), grandchild, Mia; and sister, Marsha.
A Celebration of Dale’s Life will be held at 10:00am on June 6, 2020 at Deltona Memorial Funeral Home & Gardens.
In lieu of flowers, the Schmidt Family invites you to make a donation in his name to your favorite Veterans’ organization.
