blessed with 94 years on this earth, went to be with her Heavenly Father on
Thursday, December 8, 2011. Corina was known as "Girlie" to all family and
friends who adored her.
Girlie was born on June 11, 1917 in the City of Panama, Republic of Panama,
the 2nd of 7 siblings. She resided in the City of Panama up until the age of
19, when she lost her mother. After the death of her mother, she moved to
the City of Colon, Republic of Panama, where she met her husband Neville
Beckett (deceased). This union was blessed with four daughters: Marva,
Hyacinth, Claudia (deceased at an early age) and Pamela.
Girlie moved to the USA in the year 1968 to join her daughters.
Girlie was a devoted Christian woman, a member of Christ Church by the
Sea in the City of Colon. After she was no longer able to attend services, she
continued to feed her spirit by watching her favorite religious services and
programs on television. She was an avid reader and deep thinker. Even in
her later years, she could be relied on to offer details and commentary on any
current event, especially those related to religion, politics and entertainment.
Family and friends often sought her expertise to provide the facts of a matter.
Girlie loved being amongst her family and friends. She was always there for
us, and enriched the lives of all who knew her. She was truly a gift from God.
As her grandson, Dr. Conrado Beckles III, in a tribute to her, wrote in his
Doctoral Dissertation, "To the most caring person I have ever known. At 93,
you have the warmest, most kind soul of anyone I know. Your legacy will
live on through your children, grandchildren, and great grandchildren. I
love you grandma." This sentiment was shared by all she touched.
Girlie is survived by her devoted daughters, Marva, Hyacinth and Pamela;
grandchildren, Dr. Conrado Beckles III, and Warren Beckles; great grand
children, Kentrell and Aubrey Beckles; and several nieces and nephews.
Corina "Girlie" Beckett will be missed by all. Her soul now rests in peace.
