With profound sadness, we announce the passing of Angel Luis Sanchez Jimenez, a loving and devoted father, brother, grandfather, great grandfather, and friend who touched so many lives. He left us while resting peacefully in hospice on March 14, 2024. He was surrounded by loved ones at the time of his passing at the age of 92. He would have celebrated his 93rd birthday in May.
Born in Utuado, Puerto Rico, he witnessed incredible changes to the world around him. Having served in the Korean War as an Army soldier, he served our country with strength and bravery for nine years from 1945-1954.
He was a loving husband of 42 years to Luz Avila Sanchez until her last breath on August 12, 2013. His love and commitment to her was so strong that he still wore his wedding band, carried a picture of her in his wallet, and kept a picture of her on his nightstand, which he kissed regularly.
Angel was known to most as a jack of all trades. He worked for Machinery Services in Hartford but unfortunately sustained an injury in the 70s. Then he became an Equipment Maintenance Supervisor with Pratt & Whitney until 1985, when he retired.
He had a lifelong love affair with scratch-offs and got lucky a few times. If you were ever uncertain of what to get him as a gift, you could never go wrong with a few scratch-offs. He was the king of playing dominos. If you were on his team, you were sure to win. He was skilled at reading the opponent and counting tiles. He would take so much joy in slamming a tile down and giving you a "capicu" or making you pass. He would laugh every time you knocked on the table because you couldn't make a move. With time, these skills faded, but his love for the game didn't. He was always a jokester and up to mischief till the end.
Beloved father survived by Aurea Sanchez, Angel Sanchez, Angelo Ramos, Manuel Sanchez, Wilbur Sanchez, Luz Enid Gonzalez, and Evangelisto Narvaez.
Much-loved grandfather of Jose, Jorge, Jesus, Jehovanisy, Erick, Jamila, Myra, Naomi, Amaris, AJ, Michael, Jeremy, Angeliann, Melanie, Nayelie, Ethan, and Izabella.
Great-grandfather to a boatload of kids. Man, they all know how to reproduce.
Dear brother of Lydia, Alberto, Ana, Tuly, Vera, Juanita, and Sonia. He was the oldest of 15 siblings and leaves behind many beloved nieces and nephews. He will be greatly missed and will always remain in our hearts.
A celebration of life for Angel will be held on Sunday, March 17, 2024, from 4:00 PM to 8:00 PM at Deltona Memorial Funeral Home, 1295 Saxon Blvd, Orange City, FL 32763.
