Charles came to Mansfield in 1946, served in the US Army from 1951-1953 in Germany. He married Mary Louise Hout in 1964. Charles worked for White Westinghouse for 10 years then worked for Bissman Co. for many years.
He was a member of Moose Lodge #341, Ontario Lions Club, Amvets, and life member of the Ontario VFW. He took pride in volunteering for the Ontario Lions Club, working at the hot dog trailer at various events.
He is survived by two children, Jennifer Clarson of IN and Rick (Vicki) Crawford of Newark, OH; three step children, Russ (Bev) Kleilein and Carolyn Null, both of Mansfield and Patty (Dave) Friddell of Grand Blanc, MI; twelve grandchildren; nine great-grandchildren; thirteen great-great grandchildren; and one brother, Joe (Betty) Crawford of Fort Gay, WV.
He is preceded in death by his parents; wife, Mary Louise Crawford; son, Charles R. Crawford; two brothers, Raymond and Arley Crawford; five sisters, Avonelle Hale, Opal Valsamides, Faye Skendrovich, Virginia Lamb, and Mildred Crawford; and mother-in-law, Mildred Hout.
The family will receive friends from 6:00-8:00 p.m. on Thursday, January 18, 2024, at Wappner Funeral Directors-Ontario, 100 S. Lexington-Springmill Rd. The funeral service will be held in the funeral home on Friday at 12:00 p.m. with additional visitation beginning at 11:00 a.m. The Richland County Joint Veterans Burial Detail will present military honors at the funeral home. He will be laid to rest in Ontario Cemetery. In lieu of flowers, memorial contributions may be made to Ontario Lions Club.
