Ardith “Beth” Wake of Bucyrus passed away Thursday, November 21, 2024, at Altercare of Bucyrus. She was 83 years old. Beth was born January 1, 1941 to Florence (Robinson) and Arthur J. Wake, in Bucyrus, Ohio, and she was the New Year’s Baby in Bucyrus in 1941.
Beth was a supervisor at the main branch of the Richland County Public Library in Mansfield and continued to volunteer at the library. She enjoyed gardening, was an avid reader and a member of a book group. She was a member of the Sweet Adelines singing group and adored all of her cats, rescuing and helping many cats. Beth enjoyed the support of her loving family during her illness.
When she didn’t have a book in her hand, she enjoyed all day shopping trips with her daughter, throughout Ohio. Beth volunteered at the Richland County Democratic Headquarters and enjoyed political conversations as well as the chats and conversations when she played Scrabble with her sister Hertha. She was passionate about helping the Pax Christi Group with the sisters of St Francis in Tiffin as well as volunteering at the 211 helpline.
She graduated from The Ohio State University at the age of 51 with a Bachelor of Science degree with honors and she earned many essay awards. Beth was a decendant of Daniel McFarland Cook who was credited with inventing the Maple Sugar Evaporator sold by the Blymer Industry Company in 1859 and jump started industrial success in Mansfield.
Beth is survived by her daughter, Joann (Joe) Moreno; two grandsons, Brett Moreno and Sean Moreno; brother, Tom (Kathy) Laughbaum; sister Hertha (Mike) Hetzel, Susan Monroe and her husband Mike Kalb and Jennifer Laughbaum; and numerous nieces and nephews.
She was preceded in death by her parents and special friend Joyce Couts.

A celebration of life will be held at a later date. Wappner Funeral Directors-Ontario is honored to serve the family.
