Virginia Estrada Otero passed away at Kaiser Hospital on August 4, 2016 at the age of 78. She was born on December 17, 1937 on Los Angeles, California and was raised by her grandmother and grandfather on a ranch in Coachella, California. She later moved to Dominguez Hills, California and, again, lived on a ranch. During the 1940's, she, her mother and grandparents moved again; this time setting residence in Compton, California where she began her schooling and helped raise her brothers and sisters (Virginia was the eldest of 13 children). At the age of 15, Virginia started working at the fish canary in San Pedro to help her grandmother. She rode the street cars every night alone to get to and from work, and always worked overtime. Virginia was also an avid roller derby skater and was a member of the Los Angeles Thunderbirds skating team.
In 1954 (when she was just 17) Virginia met the love of her life, Horacio Otero. They were married on November 26, 1955 (Thanksgiving Day) and had 7 children (of which, sadly, only 5 survived). She and her husband and her children moved to Ontario, California in 1967 where Virginia would live the rest of her life. She was a very beautiful woman, full of love, and full of life. Virginia loved cooking, driving her car, visiting and making new friends, shopping, eating, getting her hair and nails done. watching "Laurel and Hardy", "Topper", and western movies. She was always there for her family, no matter what. She gave every day with her whole heart and was always helping people. Virginia was a beautiful and wonderful wife, mother, sister and loyal friend.
Virginia is survived by her daughters, Lucille Otero Hance, Christine Medina, Cynthia Patti. She leaves behind six sisters, Alice Contreras, Mary Muniz, Rachel Duronslet, Gloria Laras, Vivian Velazquez, and Joanna Reveles: and a brother, Frankie Cisneros. He legacy extends to six grandchildren. She is preceded in death by her husband, Horacio; and four sons, Jimmy Otero, Lawrence Otero, Manuel Martin Otero, and Paul Otero.
A Visitation will be held at Draper Mortuary, 811 N. Mountain Avenue, Ontario, California 91762, on Thursday, August 18, 2016 from 6:00 until 8:00 PM. A Rosary will be said at 7:00 PM that evening. Funeral Service will be at Draper Mortuary, 811 N. Mountain Avenue, Ontario, California 91762 on Friday, August 19, 2016 at 11:00 AM and will be followed by a committal service at Bellevue Memorial Park, 1240 W. G Street, Ontario, California 91762 on Friday, August 19, 2016 at 11:00 AM.
