Ruben passed away peacefully on May 1, 2016. He is preceded in death by his Wife, Hortencia “Arty” Carroll-Payan; his Father, Frank Payan and his Brothers Rudy and Gilbert Payan. He is survived by his Mother, Margaret Payan; his Brother Carlos Payan; his Sister-In-Law, Marian “Nama” Payan; his Sister, Dora Ramirez; his Brother-In-Law, Roy Ramirez; his Daughter, Priscilla (Payan) Gonzalez; his Son-In-Law, Art Gonzalez, his Step-Daughters, Erica and Alice Carroll; his Step-Grandchildren, Destiny and Daniel McGrew, David Hererra and many nieces, nephews and cousins. Ruben was born in Fontana, California, on September 21, 1948. He grew up in Ontario playing baseball, enjoying car clubs and dancing and partying with his friends and family. He graduated from Chaffey High School on June 15, 1966. Following, he served as a Specialist (SP4) in the United States Army from May 1968 to June 1970. While serving his country during the Vietnam War, he received a National Defense Service Medal. Upon honorable discharge, he began his career as a Head Custodian for the Ontario-Montclair School District, and retired after 30 years of service. His favorite things included trips to the casino, playing cards, watching Lakers and Dodgers games, eating sweets, looking at cars, dancing and kicking back and enjoying a cold one while spending time with his family and friends. He was an extremely strong man, who was admired very much by those who knew his story. He was a fighter his entire life and never gave up on anything thrown his way. He was a very kind and loving man who loved to give and would do anything for his family and friends. He will be loved and missed by everyone who knew him. He will never be forgotten as his spirit will continue to live on through his loved ones. Rest in paradise RB Lakers, until we meet again!
